- "Sinan, Why are you making this theme?"
Let me tell you a short story if you would like to read it 🙂
I created a great workflow with SNN-BRX theme and use it on every project I do these days. Hundreds of other developers and agencies use SNN-BRX with me. It is growing fast and I am loving it. SNN-BRX only exists because I needed it and I knew what to make from the beginning.
Anyway, why am I making a block theme?
Before completely committing to Bricks Builder, I was neck-deep in the Block Editor and Site Editor. My initial plan was to replace shit elementor entirely with the Site Editor.
My agency used elementor a lot to make sites before me, so I had to use it for just a year to finish their existing approved projects.
In parallel I started to go test tons of stuff on with Site Editor and Block Editor. However, most of the basics weren’t ready on the Gutenberg Project.
I even invested like $600 in Block plugins. I was hoping one of them can solve all my workflow needs. But most of them are bad. Some have UX issues, some have UI issues and some are missing really important blocks. -_- sigh…
What can I say? It looks like most of them don’t make websites for a living like us, they don’t know what they dont know. I can’t blame them. They need better knowledge and visions.
Even with block plugins, the block editor and site editor seemed almost impossible for me to work with efficiently and without hassle.
If I had found a good and easy workflow I would probably stick with Block Editor but thats a parallel universe reality now. Starting from version 1.9 I started using Bricks. I first rebuilt my own personal sites and projects (I have 4-5 sites). Soon after some important roadmap features were released and I fully committed to using Bricks Builder.
Bricks Builder isn’t perfect, but it is an excellent web developer tool and still the best Visual Builder for WordPress.
But Bricks still a niche tool in the gigantic WordPress ecosystem. I will still use the Bricks Builder in the foreseeable future but most people build with what’s native. Even we combine all the visual builder sites total impact cant be more than 10% of total WordPress sites. Maybe even lower but thats just my optimistic guesstimate.
I have been coding WordPress themes since the 3.0. I made countless big or small WordPress projects. I know how the backend works, frontend works, how the template hierarchy functions, how WP_Query wpdb works, how custom blocks works, and how the Gutenberg project has evolved over time. There aren’t many people like us who know all of these timelines and feature evolutions. This gives me a unique advantage in creating the useful and powerful block theme. I have a pretty good idea of what the biggest pain points are and what I can do about them. I’m not promising to solve every single problem but you get the idea.
Thanks to great AI models and my deep WordPress context knowledge making themes and features are relatively easy for me. As long as I can find the time for it. 🙂
Top of that Core Team and Gutenberg Project has been making real strides for the last 2 years. With the upcoming new blocks, site editor updates, performance updates, php upgrades, ai mcp, wp-admin revamp and collaboration. Tons of great stuff is coming. It seems like WordPress Community will need a great block theme more than ever soon.
If I dont make it nobody will…
- What is the roadmap?
Well I dont have a roadmap yet.
But I do have a list.
- Section Block (Nestable)
- Container Block (Nestable)
- Query Block (Nestable)
- Carousel (Nestable?)
- Form Block
These are the blocks that I want to make as high priority. Not sure if all will happen on release or not we will see.
On this theme I will focus on Design very very heavily.
There will be tons of Patterns and Templates on the theme and in time that number will increase and increase.
I have much much longer list but lets keep those secret for now.
So thats my plan for now some of them or most of them will be ready on release and later on this page will get a better roadmap and feature list just like SNN-BRX page.
